Advice on how to start getting clients?
Simple question really. Specifically what techniques have you found are the most effective way of getting the right sort of clients? Thanks, Harry

Word of mouth has worked well for our infrastructure company. Go somewhere, really go the extra mile and then work your network. At the start you cant be too choosy, but as you develop your brand you can then start to work with the companies and people that interest you.

Thanks Sean. Yes. Makes good sense. Agree some short term pain is required for long term gain.

Yes. Our background was slightly different in that most of us came from permanent jobs, so we really leveraged our networks to get contacts and position ourselves to win work, often undercutting the competition just to get a foot in the door. The other key card to play is around flexibility - if you can go the extra mile or meet some tricky deadlines it starts to build your reputation and thats what clients are looking for

I'm really struggling with this too - I've realised that I'm good at the work, less good at selling it - but #1 learning has been make sure what you're selling is absolutely clear. If it's hard for people to understand why they'd hire you, they'll not.

This reminds me of the charlatan, martyr, and hustler poster from Joey Roth https://coolhunting.com/design/joey-roth-limit/.
I'm definitely a martyr but need to move in to the hustler space! Except the word hustler annoys me...
